CAL Baseball League Rules
No inning shall begin after two hours have passed unless the minimum number of innings hasn’t occurred.
Teams/Umpire should make note of the starting time of the game, determined by the first warm-up pitch in the top of the first inning.
A game may remain tied after the two hours are up and both teams have had an equal amount of times at bat.
Games are official after 5 innings (or 4 ½ when the home team is ahead). Games that end after 5 due to darkness will result in a tie. The 10-run mercy rule takes effect after this time as well. Coaches may waive the 10-run rule before the game begins.
The MPA pitching rule for baseball is in effect for all teams. [See Table Below]
Violations of this rule will result in the forfeiture of the game for the use of an ineligible player.
NO metal cleats.
Baseball bats must have the BBCOR stamp on them.
A one-piece catcher’s mask must be worn by all catchers as well as those warming up pitchers.
Wearing a helmet is recommended for coaches while warming up pitchers, but not required.
Baseball chest protectors must be NOCSAE approved.
Batters must wear helmets during any pre-game batting practice. An L-Screen (or C Screen) will be utilized if there is a pre-game batting practice.
To increase the opportunity to play, coaches may choose:
to bat a traditional line-up of 9
to bat a traditional lineup of 9 utilizing the DH
to bat the entire roster continuously
Once this selection is made, the coach must stick with the method
If a player must leave due to injury, that position in the line-up will be scratched and will not affect the pitching record or out
Free defensive substitutions are allowed.
The Pitch Count is based on the number of pitches thrown in a game. This includes balls, strikes, foul balls, outs and base hits. A pitch thrown with a balk is called shall not count as a pitch.
If a pitcher reaches the pitch count limit at any point while facing a batter, the pitcher may continue to pitch until
the batter reaches base;
the batter is put out; or
the third out is made to complete the inning.
Both teams are responsible for keeping a pitch count, and confirming the pitch number for each pitcher between innings. Game changer may be used for this, but it still must be confirmed. In any dispute, the homebook shall be deemed the official pitch count.
It is recommended that an athlete avoid playing catcher while not pitching.
Doubleheader Rule: A pitcher must follow the pitch count rule that is in effect for that day, allowing them to throw up to 105 pitches total between the games.
